Polar Bear Exhibit Renovations/Repairs
Philadelphia Zoo / Philadelphia, PA
VHGA worked with the life support design consultant on a range of improvements to the freshwater, 120,000-gallon polar bear tank. VHGA designed renovations so the exhibit could accept modifications to the filtration and disinfection systems and providing new electrical panels and power distribution for the new equipment. Improvements were phased to minimize exhibit downtime and limit the bears confinement in an alternate location. The exhibit, built to exceed Manitoba standards, also focused on the behind-the-scenes bear holding area. The functional layout delivers an efficient keeper area for access to caring for the polar bears while also maintaining keeper safety.
